Classically trained musicians from the Midwest, cellist Olivia Hahn and violinist Karla Dietmeyer began collaborating in 2012 while pursuing their Bachelor of Arts degrees in music performance. They joined forces with the goal of creating musical experiences that would challenge their formal training.
The result of this collaboration is The OK Factor, a duo experimenting in a number of genres, including bluegrass, jazz and popular music. Self-described as an alternative folk duo, they possess a unique and original sound, occasionally expanded by their collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Ehler Orngard. The OK Factor uses their instruments as vehicles for creative and innovative musical thinking, writing primarily original music. They also arrange traditional tunes, embedding fragments of folk music into their own compositions.
Brian K's upbringing in the country fields of Illinois is evident in the rootsy, rural charm of his music. Shaped by his travels and relationships, Brian's lyrically driven alt. folk is enhanced by his dry, smoky voice and subtle acoustic finger picking. There is an eerie yet comforting quality to the sojourner's composition; “Emotionally provocative and lyrically profound... refreshingly soothing but occasionally haunting.” -The Equal Ground
Brian has spent the last year developing a solid regional performance, now averaging 200 + shows a year at diverse venues across the MidWest.
Within days of his debut release, fox holes and crows' nests was picked up for play on multiple local radio stations, including the Current and KFAI, of St. Paul Minneapolis.
