Blue Groove

Blue Groove is a new, Metro area, contemporary bluegrass band which includes a couple of veteran players, a new performer, and a collection of friends who join in when they can.  The group features Adelle Hyrkas on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; and Jim Krans and David Smith on bass and banjo.  The guys contribute backing and harmony vocals and some lead singing as well.

Adelle grew up singing gospel music and hymns and listening to her mom’s old country albums.  A few years ago, a friend took her along to a bluegrass festival and that was all it took to get her hooked.  Along with her singing, her strong style of rhythm guitar is the backbone of the group.

Jim is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. He grew up singing and playing gospel music and continues to sing and play Americana/roots music.  Jim also plays guitar and mandolin in a couple of other acoustic trios and quartets.

David has brought his driving banjo style to in a number of bands over the years including the Zumbro River Rangers, Rivertown Ramblers, Whitewater Bluegrass, and TresMoto; and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-time Music Association.

Blue Groove draws material from a number of genres and artists ranging from Alison Krause to Gillian Welsh to Lonesome River Band, and many other current and contemporary bluegrass style ensembles.
